If Alexei Navalny Can Make a Valentine's Day Post From Prison, Your Boyfriend Has No Excuse by Talia

MOSCOW — After weeks of anti-Putin protests, Alexei Navalny’s list of accomplishments has just grown one longer. As Putin’s most feared opponent, Navalny has run the most successful opposition campaigns against Putin and is one of the few people to ever survive a Novichok poisoning. Currently serving a three-year prison sentence for what are widely agreed to be false charges, Navalny posted on Instagram this morning. The image shows Navalny giving his wife, Yulia Navalnaya — also a noted dissident — a loving gaze as they pose for a photo. The post reads, “I love you. And all the jokes in the courts, I make jokes to make you laugh in the front row ❤️.” Isn’t that interesting? See, I don’t know about you, but I have noticed a lack of boyfriends making Valentine’s Day posts this year. Your boyfriend, specifically. Listen, I don’t know his life. But all I’m saying is that he’d better have an AMAZING excuse. If Alexei Navalny can do it from a Russian prison while one of the most powerful men in the world tries to silence him, I’m sure your boyfriend could have found a way. As if that were all! Look, check Navalny’s TikTok! He posted a video from a Russian maximum security prison of him and his wife! Oh, but sure, your boyfriend’s phone has died or he forgot his Instagram password, or God knows what. Give me a break. Call me when you break up.
