Lessons by Hemlock

They start to cry.

Pristine crystals drop down their face.

Should I feel bad?

Love makes you suffer, that is a fact.

So if I love them, should the pain bounce back?

But it does not happen.

Some people want to die,

To not feel a thing, for they are suffering constantly.

But why would you wish for that sort of thing?

You feel pain,

But at least you feel.

Suffering makes you human.

Morals, you have to stay true to them.

Does that mean I am not real?

I scorn them, for learning is in my words.

Those lessons, Oh how they need it.

What goes around comes back,

So why can't I feel it?

They tell me “Why?”

“Why faint and fell your friends?”

I should feel remorse,

But I don’t.

So when I see them break,

I’ll pat them on the back.

Lessons are hard, but their heart gets in their way.

Put yourself together, self-mend the cracks.

So when they cry,

I know what for.

But that is not the lesson,

I won’t console you.

And when they stand, my teaching finally takes word.

They tell me “Goodbye.” and push themselves up with a huff,

I say to them what I said to those before . . .

Took you long enough.
